No school for 400,000 students as Chicago teachers strike
For the first time in 25 years, Chicage teachers decided to go on strike, walking out on more than 400,000 students at 675 schools. What triggered the strike was the conflicts over salary and the cancellation of the teachers' 4 percent pay hike in the last year of their contract. From 8:30 am to 12:30 pm on Monday morning, the teachers went into full strike, keeping 144 schools open. Thousands of unsupervised kids were on the streets.
